Review: Amazingly Flexible Videography Kit for Smartphones

Review: Amazingly Flexible Videography Kit for Smartphones

One of the downsides to Apple revamping the iPhone's form factor so often is that many accessories no longer work with the newest models. That's why the Cinema Mount Mark II ($85) from Koziro iss so refreshing. First of all, it's an impressive "cage" that encloses your smartphone and adds a tripod mount, a lens adapter with wide angle and micro lenses, and a cold shoe mount for a boom microphone or flash. All of those features are great, especially given the build quality and the price.

What sets the Cinema Mount Mark II apart from other attempts at such cases is that the mount is adaptable, both vertically and horizontally. It accommodates just about any modern 4.7-inch to 5.5-inch iPhone (i.e. the 6/6s/7 to 6/6s/7 Plus.) For that matter, it can also work with Samsung and other phones, so you can continue to use it as you upgrade or even switch platforms. There's even a strap/lanyard option. There is also an opening to plug a microphone in, but that is less useful with headphone jack removed from iPhone 7.

Pros

  • Accommodates almost any smartphone
  • Expandable lens options
  • Cold shoe for audio, flash and more
  • Excellent build quality
  • Strap / lanyard option

Cons

  • Less useful with headphone jack removed from iPhone 7
  • Doesn't work with iPhone 5/5s/SE

Final Verdict

If you do any serious videography, the Cinema Mount Mark II from Koziro can accommodate almost any modern smartphone and grow with you.
