How to Mute Audio & Pause the Video in a FaceTime Call

Have you ever wished you could mute yourself on FaceTime? Would you like to know how to pause FaceTime to hide your video feed? Well, we've got good news. You can mute yourself and hide your video during a FaceTime call, for those times when you need some privacy. FaceTime is a great tool for staying in touch with friends and family in a way that not only allows you to hear their voice, but also to see them and their environment. While using FaceTime on an iPhone is a convenient and fun way to stay in touch, there are times when you may need to mute the audio or pause the video so that every detail of life isn't available to your FaceTime buddy. Whether you need to take a moment to get out of a crowded, loud area, or for any number of other reasons, you may want to mute yourself on FaceTime or pause the video on your FaceTime call. How to Mute Yourself & Pause a FaceTime Video Call

To mute the audio on your FaceTime call:

  1. Within the call window, swipe up to open the menu and tap the Mute button. You can still hear the other person on the call, but they won’t be able to hear you.

  2. To un-mute yourself, tap the Mute button again.

How to Pause FaceTime Video During a Call

To pause your video during a call: 

  1. Drag up from the home bar to return to your Home screen.
  2. Or, open the App Switcher and switch apps.

  3. Your contact will see this screen:


     
  4. When you're ready to resume your video call, return to the FaceTime app.
